The village lies close to Agios Fotios, Statos – Agios Fotios, Choulou, Lapithou and Kanavou villages.

Statos village experienced extreme heavy rainfall in the years 1966, 1967, 1968 and 1969. So extreme was the rainfall during these years, that it resulted in many landslides in the area, with many homes being destroyed.

The Cyprus government commissioned geological studies of the area and the results concluded that the area had become unsafe for the residents to remain in their homes.

The Cyprus government made plans to create a new village nearby, and along with the nearby village of Agios Fotios, which was experiencing similar problems, the government offered the residents new homes. The residents of the two villages began moving into their new homes in 1972.

The new village was named Statos – Agios Fotios after the names of the two, now abandoned, villages.

Statos village is now mainly used by a few shepherds who keep their livestock there.
