Psematismenos Village is located in the Larnaca District of Cyprus. The village is close to Tochni and Maroni villages and Larnaca is only a short drive of 31 kilometres away.

Archaeological remains found around the area of the village show that it was inhabited in prehistoric times. The site of the village dates back to the Byzantine period and was originally founded as a Fief belonging to Mario Squarcialupi.

Psematismenos village is built along the bank of the Maroni River, which provided irrigation for growing vegetables, citrus trees, carob trees, olives and cereals. The village continues to be mainly a traditional farming village, continuing the village tradition.

The village houses were built in the local traditional architecture, using the local stone and wood. There are many ruins in the village and these are slowly being renovated to blend in with the traditional culture and style of the village. The new modern houses are also keeping to the traditional architectural style of the village.

The main village church dedicated to Agia Marina was built in the 16th century and was completely restored in 1886.

The Olive Tree Park lies just on the outskirts of the village and is set in a area with local old olive trees. There are facilities for picnics, a Kleftiko Oven and the park also holds environmental education classes.

The sea is close by, meaning Psematismenos Village is an ideal location for tourism, blending in with the new trend in Agrotourism.

Psematismenos Village was the location Lord Kitchener chose to base himself when the British took over Cyprus from the Ottomans. The reason he based himself in the village was it’s central location, which made his task of surveying Cyprus much easier.
